Hybrid Car Outruns Zombies In New Chevrolet Ad

In the event of zombie apocalypse, you'll have a lot to worry about. Stockpiling food, gathering up firearms and rescuing loved ones from the infected masses. Now one ad suggests you'll also have 'range anxiety' to contend with.

Range anxiety is the fear of being stranded in a car after it has run out of fuel. Most of the time, this is an inconvenience. When being chased by zombies, it's a little more serious.

Chevrolet's latest ad for its Volt hybrid car has a serious warning about using petrol cars during the zombie holocaust. Their limited range will make you an easy target for the brain-chomping hordes once they run out of gas.

Zombie Ride follows two desperate survivors, whose escape along a desert road is impeded by an empty fuel tank. The pair flee on foot as the undead close in on them. One of them stumbles and the two slow down as the zombies get closer and closer.

Just when all looks lost, an attractive saviour arrives in a stylish Chevrolet Volt. The gang speed off into the sunset, free of any worries about being stranded in the midst of hungry undead cannibals. All thanks to the Volt's incredible range.

The ad is a fun way to demonstrate the impressive extra distance that can be squeezed out of Chevy's hybrid. Society may have crumbled and the dead may walk the earth, but good fuel efficiency is still something to be prized.

So, when the zombies rise up, will you have what it takes to go the distance?

Dead Clever Ad Uses Zombies In Safety Campaign

Zombies are usually seen slowly shuffling across abandoned cities in large groups, relentlessly searching for their next meal of flesh and brains. Not any more.

The undead have abandoned their unsteady stumble and taken to the road to help the California Office of Traffic Safety to warn drivers about the dangers of reckless driving.

Re-animated corpses are appearing in the Don't Be A Zombie campaign, which uses ads and live events to highlight the dangers of driving while distracted. Dim-witted zombies are shown eating, doing their make up and using mobile phones while behind the wheel.

The ads cite a Carnegie Mellon research study which found that driving while distracted reduces brain power by 37 per cent. Admitted, suggesting that texting while driving can turn you into a rotting corpse might be far-fetched, but it does illustrate the drop in cognitive ability.

Teen drivers are particularly vulnerable to distractions and the ads have been made with them in mind. Despite this, the first of the ads, Don't Be A Zombie, is proving popular with audiences of all ages in America.

Coming from California, the ads made use of the movie industry's special effects to make the characters eerily lifelike. Or not, as the case may be.

Launched a week ago, the first ad Don't Be A Zombie has just over 1,000 views. This may not be the most impressive start, but the humour and horror included  are bound to find fans.

Once the campaign gets going, we expect it to spread rapidly, conquering cities and towns until there's nowhere left to hide...

More videos after the jump.
