Kids Review New Volvos In Latest Ad, Do A Better Job Than Top Gear

Looks like Jeremy Clarkson has some serious competition. They are certainly a lot less jaded and unlike the grumpy BBC presenter they actually give car reviews that are of some use to the average motorist. They are also younger - a lot younger. That's because they are children. 

Yep, to help promote their new XC60 and XC90 models, Volvo asked some kids for their opinions about how comfy the back seats are.

It's an inspired idea from Cake New York. After all, who better to review how comfortable and practical the back seats are than the people who will spend most of their time in them.

The result? Well, I would have liked to have heard some funny comments from the kids, but instead the video is a really informative piece of thoughtful analysis that feels natural.

Basically, nothing like Top Gear!


Tightrope Walk Between Speeding Trucks In Volvo Ad

There aren't many ads for large haulage vehicles, but we're sure most of them drone on about cargo capacity and tailgate lifts. This one goes to extremes to put some excitement into showing just how good one brand of trucks can be.

Volvo FH trucks took a record-breaking slackline walker, a Hollywood stunt director, a helicopter and two of their juggernaut trucks; and then sent them all hurtling down a closed highway toward certain doom.

Faith Dickey is a world champion in the sport of slacklining, which is like tightrope-walking but the rope wobbles and bounces underneath you.

Dickey is a pro, but it can't help much when the bucking rope she is trying to walk is strung between two giant trucks thundering down the road at 80kmh towards a tunnel which will divide the trucks, snap the line and kill anyone unfortunate enough to get in the way.

So with the clock ticking, Dickey takes her first tentative steps along the line. And promptly falls, catching herself before she is dashed on the speeding tarmac below.

Having lost valuable time to the unfortunate stumble, she must quickly cover the distance between the trucks. The tunnel looms in the distance as she reaches halfway.

Just metres from the tunnel, Dickey jumps the final few steps, tumbling to safety just as the rope is severed.

Put together by Swedish ad agency Forsman & Bodenfors, the nerve-jangling clip has garnered nearly 2 million views in just 5 days. There's certainly been plenty of conversation generated by the stunt, with over 22,000 shares already.

Adrenaline junkies in the market for a heavy goods vehicle would have to buy two in order to emulate this stunt. If sales of Volvo trucks double, we'll know why.
