Lego Animation Shows Team USA's Fab Fives Vault To Gold

The women's gymnastics finals is one of the Olympics' most loved events. Whether it's the tight lycra or the gravity defying stunts, there's something for everyone.

After Team USA's 'Fab Five' won the gold this week, the world went mad for McKayla Maroney's near-perfect vault.

It was the first time the US had won an all-round team medal since 1996, and The Guardian have released 'Brick By Brick' a Lego reenactment for anybody who missed the legendary moment.

Produced by PHD, the animated reconstruction shows the tense competition between America and Russia, with Maroney's performance ultimately stealing the show.

Launched only yesterday, the clip has already racked up over 27,140 views and 3,620 shares.

The chunky, plastic athletes in this film probably prove it isn't just the skimpy outfits that fuel our love for gymnastics after all.

Lego Heroes Star In Fan-Made Short Films

There are toys, and there are toys that inspire kids and adults alike to create their own incredible adventures. Now, one of the world's favourite toys brand is using its army of imaginative fans to create their latest ad campaign.

Lego commands a loyal army of fans of all ages. That army has turned out its toybox and created a series of short films starring the toy makers' latest range, Lego Heroes.

The eight films were all submitted by fans, each following the Heroes as they go through a day in their lives. We see them battling the bad guys, patrolling the city streets and trying to enjoy some well-earned time off.

Packed with fights, tell-all interviews, fake moustaches and hilarious weapons malfunctions, the clips are proving popular with fans, with some of them earning over 10,000 views in just two days.

It's comforting to know that the world is protected by noble heroes, and that they too hate cleaning the house.

More videos after the jump.

Top 10 Coolest Lego Movie Tributes

Things would be so much better if the world was made out of Lego. Even the worst things about life, like traffic wardens, taxes and Lorraine Kelly, would be significantly improved if they were made out of little yellow toys.

But what about films? Could a Lego version of a movie trailer or clip be even better than the original?

Well, anything is possible. We are pretty sure we could make a better film than Avatar with some Smurf toys and an actual script.

And what about terrible films? Could you actually make something truly awful such as Tim Burton’s Planet Of The Apes remake watchable by making it purely out of Lego bricks?

Again, it is possible, but Plant Of The Apes is probably a step too far. It would take a lot more than little yellow heads and slightly creepy smiles to sweeten that bitter memory. Tim Burton being beaten with sticks by chimps in dinner jackets would be a start.

Top 5 Funniest Virals Of The Week: Lego Turns Into Call Of Duty

Do you ever really grow out of Lego? Sure, we may stop playing with the toys, but you only need look at the popularity of the numerous videos on YouTube to know there is something special about those little yellow faces.

I mean, here at the Meme Machine, it’s any excuse to go to Legoland. Although as only a few of us have kids, we usually have to kidnap someone else’s to get in. Of course, we are joking - none of us have kids.

But it is true to say that Lego never loses its appeal, even to adults. So much so that a UK survey that I have totally just made up recently revealed that Prime Minister David Cameron's popularity would soar by 1,667% if he was made out of Lego. And that is a fact (I just made up).

However, you can't argue with the fact that the world would be a better place if it was made of Lego. Lego trees, Lego cars, and even little Lego criminals.

That's a world we could all deal with, probably with the same painted expression and clothes we had when we were made.
