Top 10 Most Shared England Football Ads

With the Euro 2012 kick-off just hours away every country in Europe is sitting on the edge of their seats, hoping and praying that their team will lift the trophy this time round.

Lets be honest, England haven't performed particularly well in national tournaments for quite some time now, but that doesn't stop the fans getting overly excited and hugely patriotic before the tournament begins.

The build-up is one of the best parts, as we all fill ourselves with a boundless sense of optimism that maybe, just maybe, this will be the year England lift the trophy once again.

There has been some great England ads over the years to aid the hype of England winning tournaments, with a number of adverts featuring the England legends that have tasted international success, such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Stuart Pearce, John Barnes and Paul Gascoigne.

So, with the boys not heading out the tunnel in Ukraine until Monday, we thought we would take a look back at the top 10 most shared England ads of all-time to get you in the mood.

What's your favourite? - More ads after the jump...

Ian Wright Dreams "What If" For England Euro Victory

As Euro 2012 draws closer, football fans all over England are letting themselves dream of football coming 'home'. But the fans aren't alone, a former England star is already waxing lyrical about England's chances.

The normal relationship between poetry and football is thousands of voices tunelessly shouting chants about pies. But Three Lions veteran Ian Wright is changing all that in this ad for Absolute Radio.

Wrighty hosts the station's Rock N' Roll Football show, combining football commentary and music with chat and banter. Throughout Euro 2012, he'll be fronting the station's coverage of the competition, providing full commentary of all England matches.

To celebrate, Wright stars in an ad to inspire England fans. The clip features the striker-turned-pundit reading Rudyard Kipling's inspirational poem If to images that chart the glories and the heartbreaks of the national team's past.

Fans watching the clip relive the agony of Maradona's Hand Of God goal in the 1986 World Cup and Gazza's tears during Italia '90. Wright implores fans to believe, to hope and to "fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run".

What if all this happens? Bobby Moore and the 1966 England team give the answer: Victory.

The ad itself is winning fans, with over 22,000 views in just three days. Appearing on Twitter and Facebook, it seems as though the ad, and it's message, is spreading.

Whatever happens on the pitch, inspiration like this will guarantee a roaring crowd for the Three Lions.

Disclosure: Unruly is distributing this video on behalf of ABSOLUTE RADIO. This post is not part of the commercial plan and is written by the editorial team at Unruly, whose opinions are always independent, sometimes scurrilous, and never knowingly under-researched.

Stephen Fry Invites The UK To Stay At Home In Latest Ad Campaign

Stephen Fry is a national treasure: he's polite, clever, badly dressed and slightly eccentric, which is why Britain loves him.

Now Fry is joined by Julie Walters and Rupert Grint in asking The Brits to love their rainy little island.  The Home Holidays Are Great by agency M&C Saatchi has enlisted the stars to showcase Britain's culture, history and countryside.

The campaign jointly promotes the tourist boards of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  The tourist boards have joined forces to offer online deals and offers on travel and entry to attractions at their website.

Rupert Grint jumps energetically around Anglesey, Julie Walters praises Wordsworth and Stephen Fry sips tea while encouraging the people of Britain to ditch the stress of foreign holidays for a much more refined holiday at home.

The ad will run on TV but has proved a hit on YouTube, gathering nearly 12,000 views in its first 3 days, proving almost as popular with audiences in the USA and Canada as its intended British audience.

The video is surprisingly popular with a female audience of 18-34, which we suspect has something to do with an internet following for a certain redhead former wizard.

Whatever is driving the popularity of this ad, Saatchi can sit back with a nice cup of tea and humbly enjoy their good work.

Take a look for yourselves below.
