A piece of modern art has become a national scandal in Sweden and an unlikely hit online. The work features a screaming cake that has sparked a global row about racism.
The cake forms part of a piece by artist Makode Aj Linde. Shaped like a crude caricature of an African woman, visitors were invited to cut into the cake to highlight the practice of female circumcision.
While the work itself is a shocking account of the painful and sometimes fatal practice, the focus has been on the cake, with many branding it racist. Aj Linde, who is black, plays the screaming head while sporting grotesque make-up.
The row may even cost Sweden's culture minister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth her job after she was photographed cutting into the cake.
Painful Cake, is the most popular of several ads depicting the disturbing artwork. With over 545,000 views and 41,000 shares, the clip has become a sensation on Twitter and Facebook.
