Castle Returns To Rule Over The TV Schedule

Castle returns this week for its second series on Channel 5.

Nathan Fillion’s crime-author-turned Monk-like-detective (to be clear, we mean Monk as in Detective Monk from the TV series Monk, not a guy who wears a robe and lives in a monastery), is back in action and ready to make Detective Kate Beckett’s life a living hell all over again.

The promo is effectively a glimpse into the self-obsessed psyche that inhabits Richard Castle’s skin: cool music, suave suit and a lady whispering his name as she seductively strokes a pool cue.

It’s only when the promo is turned on its head that we remember what’s great about this series, the oft-seen juxtapositional double act is well balanced, leading to great tension and humour between Castle and Beckett.

The 1-minute promo encapsulates this notion perfectly, using a sudden transition of scene to remind the audience of the series’ tone and the dynamic of the relationship between the two protagonists.

Throw in a couple of visual nods to American Beauty and we’re ready to welcome Castle back into our homes. Castle returns this Friday at 10pm, on Channel 5.
