'Water Is Life' Ad Will Make You Think Twice Before Complaining

What are your pet hates? The things that get on your nerves? How about when your iPod runs out of battery on a long journey? When the Internet is slow and you can't log into Facebook? When the steak you order is overdone? The new ad for Water Is Life will make you think twice before you complain about such trivial issues in the future.

By filming citizens of the Third World reciting First World problems, we can see clearly how ridiculous we sound. These are not problems. Not when you are suffering from dehydration on a daily basis.

Water Is Life (WiL) is a charity which aims to bring clean water to those in need, short and long-term, and so save lives and transform communities. Most of us take clean water on tap for granted. We let water run whilst brushing our teeth, we take 20 minute-long showers. Clean water is a gift, and we in the First World need to remember that.

According to WiL, 1.1 billion people only have access to dirty, disease-infested water, which is dirtier than the water in our toilet bowls. In fact, 6,500 people die every day as a result, 5,000 of which are children.

This ad really hits home and definitely gnaws at your conscience. So next time you're complaining about how there is nothing on TV, or how there is frost on your Porsche windscreen, take a second and think about this advert.

Their message rings true - First World problems are not problems. Not compared to worrying about whether you will have enough water for you and your family to stay alive another day.
