Brad Inspires (Or Confounds) The World In New Ads For Chanel No. 5

Smouldering and seductive? Or pretentious and poorly-executed? The new ads for Chanel No. 5, featuring Brad Pitt, have been both praised and torn apart by critics. And for good reason too...

They have managed to bewilder most viewers with their abstract forms, featuring Brad Pitt, in black and white, talking about life. I, also, have no idea what he is actually trying to get across in this ad. His words wash over me and not even his rugged good looks help me to concentrate on his message.

Maybe it's because he does not make sense. The ad is confusing, although I think Chanel were probably aiming more towards 'abstract' and 'thought-provoking'. I think the main reason why it has racked up so many views is because people are having to watch it again and again to try to comprehend it.

Part 2, released two days later, is just as stuffy. Claiming to be a continuation of 'the story', along with Brad it features two ladies wandering around lakes and through fancy buildings.

"Wherever I go, there you are," Pitt proclaims with a smouldering glance. A little bit creepy if you ask me, and I never ever thought I would say that about Brad Pitt.

Now, we all know that Brad Pitt is an international superstar actor and a face which is recognised all over the globe. Perhaps that is why Chanel dished out $7 million for his 30-second long performances in their new campaign.

Although critics have said that Pitt's acting isn't top notch in these ads, in my opinion, the star of Fight Club has been let down by Chanel. The line "the world turns and we turn with it" isn't really much to work with.

But, I actually have to say that I think I prefer this spoof ad below, (created by Brooklyn Brothers' Matthew Bamford-Bowes) dubbed 'Irrelevance', to the real thing.

And I definitely understand more of what he is saying. Sorry Brad.
