They say you before you can look forward, you need to first look back. It's a rule, we at Meme Machine intend to adhere to. 

Sure, it's 2012, and no doubt another great year of social video campaigns and funny memes beckon. But let's not forget some of the funny videos that have gone before. There are plenty.

In that spirit, we have decided to dust off a golden oldie. Sure, it is almost three years old now, but for those who have already heard this gem of a video, we do not apologise.

Why? Because it is one of the funniest YouTube videos you will ever watch (or should that be hear?), and, quite frankly, we never tire of it at Meme Machine Towers.

Besides, I think we can all do with a bit of cheering up today.

For those of you who have no idea what this is, brace yourself for a treat. It may sound like a school orchestra performing the theme tune to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it is in fact a real orchestra.

They are called Portsmouth Sinfonia and were founded by a group of students at the Portsmouth School of Art way back in 1970, as, well, a joke.

To get in, players had to either be non-musicians, or a musician playing an instrument they had never played before. The result: pure genius.
