New Low In Football: Player Kills Injured Owl By Kicking It Off The Pitch
Put yourself in this footballer's boots. You are playing a match and an owl lands on the pitch.
The ball accidentally hits the poor bird, injuring it. When you walk up to the distressed owl do you:
a) Pick it up and hand it to someone else to take care of it?
b) Stand and stare, and hope someone else takes care of the situation?
c) Boot the stupid bird off the field and get on with the game?
Well, options a and b are looking pretty good to us, but Panamanian player Luis Moreno decided to chose option c.
The disgusting incident happened during a league match in Columbia. The owl, a good luck charm for the fans of the home team Junior Barranquilla, landed near the corner flag and was quickly struck by the ball during a game against Pereira.
But when the ref stopped the game to clear the pitch, Moreno ran up to the stricken animal and booted it around three metres.
His actions sparked fury among the home fans, with some sections chanting 'murderer' at the bemused defender.
The anger was not just confined to the stands either, with some of the opposition players also letting rip at Moreno.
"I was so angry he hit the little animal, especially after it had already been hit by the ball,' Junior striker Luis Paez told the local newspaper.
"I told him a bunch of rude things, a really felt enraged."
What a twit!!
