Controversial New John Lewis Christmas Ad Makes People Cry

John Lewis's new Christmas ad certainly tugged at the UK's collective heartstrings at the weekend.
'The Long Wait' - a sweet ad that features a small boy as he impatiently counts down the days until December 25, only for a nice twist at the end (watch below) - was finally given its long-awaited TV debut on Saturday night amid a flood of tears.
The commercial, created by Adam & Eve, had parents across the land reaching for the Kleenex after the £5million campaign was finally unleashed during X-Factor.
However, not everyone found themselves welling up during the 90-second spot. In fact, some, such as columnist Charlie Brooker, attacked it for being overly-sentimental and mawkish.
Others, such as The Guardian's Alex Clark, are unhappy that Morrissey gave permission for the ad to use The Smiths' classic track Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want, performed by singer-songwriter Slow Moving Millie.
Not that it has impacted on its success. The video has already been seen over 600 thousand times online since its release just a few days ago.
But what do you think? Go and watch it for yourselves. However, be warned: you may need a hankerchief.
